Funny Things Seen While RV Camping

Part 1-‘Cause We All Know There WILL BE MORE!

There have been many Crazy, Funny Things Seen While RV Camping over the many years we have camped. Some even come from our own family!

RV Camping is a Fun Tradition

I have such fond memories of RV Camping with my Grandparents while growing up. They had a 2 door fifth wheel that we all stayed in. This was back in the 80’s so there were no slide outs and I remember that the height of the bedroom ceiling was so low in this fifth wheel that you couldn’t stand up straight if you were very tall.

Oh, the memories! So much laughter from tricks being played on family members, games played, many meals made, and again, so much laughter! That’s what Camping is all about! This is why we still go RV Camping and why it is so important to us to have Aiden grow up with these same traditions!

The “Dammit Doll”

One of my fondest memories is my Grandparents had a doll that they kept in the camper. It was called the “Dammit Doll”! I loved hearing grandma tell the rhyme that went with this unique doll. It goes like this:

“Whenever things don’t go so well,

and you want to hit the wall and yell,

Here’s a little Dammit Doll,

That you can’t do without.

Just grasp it firmly by the legs

And find a place to slam it.

And as you whack the stuffing out

Yell “Dammit! Dammit! Dammit!”

I was wondering if they still made these dolls. I just checked Amazon and THEY DO!

“If The Campers a-Rockin’… Don’t Bother Knockin”

Another thing I remember about these same Grandparents is that they had a sticker on one of the doors to their RV. As a child, I thought it was hilarious that my GRANDPARENTS had this on their RV door! It said “If the Campers a-Rockin’…Don’t Bother Knockin’!” I just had to get a sign that has a similar saying for our new camper!

Gosh, I sure miss them! They were so much fun!

Here are more recent sightings and such!

“The Flapper”

This family had finished packing up their RV and were ready to pull out of the park. They didn’t get their awning pulled in all the way on their Motorhome. It had to be obvious as it was flapping quite a bit. You can just imagine what happened when they got on the highway!

“The Black Water Fiasco”

We saw a couple who thought they were pulling the gray water and accidentally pulled black water. That’s why you don’t dump anything on campsites people!! Ugh! Yuck!

They DO Slide In Too!

Just this last year, my Dad and I were sitting outside, and we saw a guy who had packed up his RV (we assumed to move to a different campsite but outside of the area we were in). He was driving down the road with his slide outs OUT! You can imagine how well that worked out once he got on the main road that happens to be very narrow!

“The Awning Fiasco”

Just this last year also, a guy staying a few campsites down from us moved his truck under his awning as a hail storm was coming to protect his truck. The storm ended up having strong winds in it with the hail and his awning went up and then down right on his truck. It ended up doing damage to both the truck and the RV.

“The Definition of Insanity”

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. This happens more times than we can count. I’m not making fun of people because I personally could NEVER back a big RV into a campsite, however, it is fun to watch people backing their RV’s into the campsite, almost jackknife it, and then pull out of the campsite just to do the exact same thing again! This would TOTALLY BE ME if I even had the guts to try it!

“Random Encounters”

This one is also something I have done on many occasions. I have seen many people accidentally walk up into the wrong campsite when it’s dark outside. They come up just talking away like they know us until they SEE we are not who they think we are!

‘The Mud Flinger and Sprinkler System”

Another thing we see all the time is people backing into their campsite in the pouring rain. They’re in a hurry and they take out the grass and make a muddy mess! We watched one guy do this same thing and then he hooked up a water hose to his camper then drove off in his truck leaving the fifth wheel at the campsite. Apparently, he didn’t do something right because a little while later water was spraying everywhere outside and overflowing from his RV!

“The Snake”

So, this is a unique one for sure. My parents had a rather large snake on their campsite and at the time we couldn’t tell what kind it was because it kept slithering under their RV and trying to get up inside. My mom and I went over to the camp hosts site to see if maybe we could get some assistance in getting the snake to a safe place for all. As we are walking upon his campsite (it was during his working hours by the way) we see him “doing his business” on the side of his RV. Now I get it, we are camping but this is a campground with MANY people, and he is the host and knows people will be coming to his site in the daytime hours. Seriously, we didn’t need to see that!

“The PVC Pipe Private Project”

Finally, this last one still has us confused. Mom and I were outside just hanging out. This woman across the street from our campsite had just pulled in by herself. We were commenting to each other how impressed we were that she was doing all the setup by herself. After getting stuff set up, she then proceeds to bring out white PVC pipe. I mean A LOT OF PVC Pipe! She hooked them all together to create a large and long pipe and then curled it around her camper, but it kept coming undone and we saw her outside working all day on it. We never could figure out what she was trying to use it for!

That wraps up a few funny things seen while RV Camping. We would love to hear funny stories about what YOU have seen, so feel free to them share below in the comments section!
